Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Vice President of the European Parliament, member of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly Bureau Richard Charnetsky.

Serzh Sargsyan welcomed the guest and attached importance to such meetings, which according to the RA President provide good opportunity to discuss the prospects of Armenia – EU relations with Armenia’s friends of the European Community.

The RA President and Richard Charnetsky recalled their previously held meetings and the mutual visits of the Armenian and Polish President. They noted that the Armenian – Polish interstate relations were gradually deepening. President Serzh Sargsyan noted that Armenia has a reliable partner in the international arena in the face of Poland and their relations are based on the historical relations and common approaches on various issues. Richard Charnetsky said that his country has a very good idea and a special understanding of the geopolitical situation, in which Armenia currently is.

The parties stressed the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation with the EU, which takes place in the framework of the RA-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, as well as in the format of Euronest Parliamentary Assembly of the Eastern Partnership. Serzh Sargsyan and Richard Charnetsky discussed the possibilities of developing cooperation effectively.

President Sargsyan familiarized Charnetsky with the process of peaceful settlement of NKR conflict, the joint efforts of OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair Countries and Armenia, as well as the current problems. The President also referred to the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in 2015, highlighting the importance of the role of parliamentarians in recognition of this crime, denunciation, and thus the prevention of future genocides.
