Life-sentenced priosner Aren Chatikyan`s relatives hold a protest in front of the RA Prosecutor`s Office. The priosner`s mother Alla Martirosyan said that they were demanding to reopen the criminal case.
Aren Chatinyan was convicted to life imprisonment in 2008. He was 21 years old, was studying at the faculty of Physical culture of the Vanadzor Pedagogical University. He was convicted for the murder of a taxi driver and a policeman. Aren does not recognize himself guilty, and is on a hunger strike with the purpose of having the criminal case reopened. Iravaban.net got confirmation of the hunger strike also from the Penitentiary press officer of the Ministry of Justice Gor Ghlechyan, though he stated that in his application Aren Chatinyan did not clarify why he held the hunger strike. “The prisoner announced about the hunger strike at 08:30 on October 17. His prison cell was separated and now he is under medical control, and doctors also try to understand the reasons of his actions”.
Let us also mention that the case passed through all the instances, got top the ECHR and was rejected as of being unjustified.
Mrs. Martirosyan clarified that his son committed the stabbing in May 2008, but the person stabbed with knife didn`t die. “And my son was framed for another case, this time stabbing of a taxi driver which happened in April”.
The prisoner`s mother showed the opinion of the expert, which was also included in the case materials. “It is clearly stated here that there is no evidence in the criminal case which will prove that Aren Chatinyan was in the place of accident or took part in the crime”.
She also said that the case was investigated by Police Major Babken Martoyan, senior investigator on the most important cases of the Arabkir Investigative division of the RA Police General Investigation Department, and Babken Martoyan was accused in 2009 for forging the evidence of another case. “Surely he has also misrepresented my son`s case”, claimed Mrs. Martirosyan.
Today the Prosecutor`s Office told Mrs. Martirosyan that the criminal case can not be reopened as there are no “New conditions”, the presence of which is required by the RA Criminal Proceeding Code.
