Life-Sentenced Prisoner ends the Hunger Strike

Yesterday at 16:30 life-sentenced prisoner Aren Chatikyan ended the hunger strikeIravaban.net gets this information from the Press Officer of the Penitentiary Institutions Gor Ghlechyan. The prisoner started the hunger strike on 17 October demanding reopening of his criminal case. 

On 20 October with the same demand the prisoner`s relatives held a protest action in front of the RA General Prosecutor`s Office. Aren Chatikyan was convicted to life-imprisonment in 2008. He was 21 years old, was studying at the faculty of Physical culture of the Vanadzor Pedagogical University. He was convicted for the murder of a taxi driver and a policeman. Aren does not recognize himself guilty. Aren Chatinyan`s case passed through all the instances, got top the ECHR and was rejected as of being unjustified 

Gor Ghlechyan informed that neither while presenting a note on hunger strike, nor ending the hunger strike Aren Chatinyan did not justify his actions, though his relatives were claiming that it is exactly with the demand of reopening the criminal case that the prisoner went on a hunger strike. Mr. Ghlechyan stated that at this point there were no prisoners on hunger strike among life-sentenced prisoners.
