Judges should be elected, not appointed. Hayk Alumyan

You don`t need to fight for the independence of the judicial system, advocate Hayk Alumyan is sure. In his words currently it`s possible to make judges independent through the following way: “It is a model of electing judges. They should be elected and not appointed”, said the advocate also stating that there is no such requirement today. “In fact it`s about no one, or rather about those people, who make decisions – we don`t need an independent judiciary”.

The advocate believes that this realization will come when the situation becomes inextricable. “Only judicial system may be the one to bring the society out of this hard situation, when the realization comes that many things depend on judicial independence and it is more needed than having own levers over every judge, and then they will think more seriously in this direction and will see the only solution – form the first instance courts through elections, and the higher courts might be formed by these judges”, concluded Mr. Alumyan.
