The Court Verdict on Political Scientist Arkadi Vardanyan’s Case announced

Today the First Instance Court of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts presided by Judge Arshak Vardanyan announced the verdict on the case of political scientist Arkadi Vardanyan, Varuzhan Saftalyan and Arsen Avetisyan.

Arkadi Vardanyan was sentenced to 10 years in prison, Arsen Avetisyan to 11 years in prison, and Varuzhan Savtalyan to 4 years. The Court decided conditional suspension of punishment for the latter with a 4 year probation period.

Gayane Galoyan, defender of Arkadi Vardanyan in the case told this at the interview with the journalist of iravaban.net.

The advocate mentioned that she was not expecting such a strict punishment, and thought that the verdict would be just. She is going to appeal the decision in the Court of Appeal.

Earlier Arsen Avetisyan and Arkadi Vardanyan were charged for the fact that they had decided to illegally deprive of life Arsen Avetisyan’s father Robert Avetisyan.

Varuzhan Saftalyan was charged for the fact of obtaining and providing psychotropic substance in large amount to Arsen Avetisyan, however without knowing about the planned grave crime.
