Dual citizen accused of smuggling

The preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated against a dual citizen (the citizen of the USA and the Republic of Armenia) on committing smuggling has been completed in the Investigation Department of the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia. The prosecutor who supervised the preliminary investigation of the criminal case had confirmed the bill of indictment.

During the preliminary investigation of the criminal case it has turned out that the citizen of the USA and the Republic of Armenia A. Harutyunyan decided to establish permanent residence in Armenia in 2009. That is why; he took his personal belongings to Armenia. In September, 2011, A. Harutyunyan took a part of his belongings to Armenia including three shotguns receiving permission from the Police. The remaining part of his personal belongings he sent to Armenia by cargo and on 12 December 2012 declared it in the Araratyan Customs House.

However, on 12 December 2012, as a result of the checking conducted in the customs warehouse of the “METEX Terminal” Ltd. it turned out that there had been undeclared items that is 175 bullets of shotgun and carabineer, 58 bullets of shotgun, 14 bullets of sport rifles, two radio communication means and other armaments.

A. Harutyunyan has been charged according to the Part 2 of the Article 215 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. The criminal case has been sent to the Court of First Instance of Malatia-Sebastia administrative districts.

Note: Suspected or charged with an offense is presumed innocent until proven guilty  by the court decision which entered into force pursuant to the order provided by the Criminal Procedure Court.
