The Attitude of the Public towards the Whistleblowers’ Institute may be changed in Case of Successful Examples

Only 9% of the population is ready to report about corruption cases. This is proved by a survey conducted by the Ministry of Justice on the newly launched whistleblowers’’ system in Armenia. “It is necessary to change the society’s tolerant attitude towards the phenomena of corruption. Change the attitude towards the whistleblowers’ institute,” Deputy Justice Minister Suren Krmoyan said today at a joint event organized by the Ministry of Justice and the Armenian Lawyers’ Association of (ALA).

Mr. Marat Atovmyan Lawyer of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association mentioned in his speech that as a result of cooperation with the Ministry, the whistleblowers’ institute has been introduced. Such system is operating in a number of countries and has positive results. And at present, the tolerant attitude of the society towards corruption may be change when we shall have success, and the corruption case will be revealed as a result of the whistleblowing, the damage will be compensated and the corresponding punishment is imposed. This has taken place in Hong Kong, where the whistleblowers’ institute successfully operates.

It should be noted that the introduction of the whistleblowers’ institute is one of the issues in the agenda of the Roadmap of the Armenian Lawyers’ association and the CSO Anti-Corruption Coalition of Armenian, which was presented to the Government in 2016.
