Hakob, Hripsime and Elmon Yeghnukyan have already been released: Ombudsman

Today, early morning, Susan Simonyan, Coordinator of the Armenian Women’s Front initiative, informed the staff of the Armenian Human Rights Defender that Hakob, Hripsime, Elmon Yeghnukyans and members of the Armenian Women Front initiative Ruzanna Yeghnukyan, Aghavni Sahakyan and Geghetsik Tonoyan were taken to the Central Division of the Yerevan Police Department.

According to the report, they were detained for distributing leaflets about Zhirayr Sefilyan and Karo Yeghnukyan in the presence of participants of the Armenia-Diaspora forum.

Immediately after the call, the representatives of the Human Rights Defender’s Office visited the Central Police Division. The representatives of the Defender’s Staff had private interviews with the detainees; clarifications were required on the legal grounds for their detention. According to police officers, the mentioned persons were detained on the basis of an alarm about presence of explosive devices in the Republic Square.

As a result of joint work with the police, Hagop, Hripsime, Elmo Yeghnukyan were released, work to release others is underway.
