Whistleblowers are not “Snitchers”, they are Decent and Law-Abiding Citizens: Karen Zadoyan to the MP

The fight against corruption has three pillars and the first is anti-corruption education. From this aspect Mr. Karen Zadoyan, President of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association NGO notes the importance to providing anti-corruption knowledge to the Members of Parliament.

Today, during the live broadcast of “Face to Face” program in Aravot.am website Mr. Zadoyan made a reference to yesterday’s speech of the MP from ARF Dashnaktsutyun Faction Andranik Karapetyan at the NA, who had noticed “not appropriate for the Armenian” provisions in the legislative package on the Whistleblowers. At the same time the MP described the whistleblowing as “snitching”.

Mr. Zadoyan said that the deputies should at list possess the professional issues and only then approach the podium and speak. “It is a shame when the MP makes such a speech. Whistleblowers are the people who report on corruption cases, that is they inform the law enforcement agencies and the public in order to eliminate these problems. They are not “snitchers”, they are decent and law-abiding citizens. The state and the society must support them,” Karen Zadoyan said.

He also said that the organization sent its proposals to the factions, only deputies from “Yelk” faction responded to the calls and a meeting took place. Another meeting was held with Arpine Hovhannisyan, the Vice President of the NA. “Unfortunately, the rest of the factions did not want to meet. If they had met, and among them Dashnaktsutyun faction as well, I believe that no such speech would have taken place,” ALA President said.
