Public Control is Weak in Armenia

“Public control in our country is weak,” members of the Public Network for Cooperation with State Authorities believe.

They mention that the reports submitted by the government are not studied by the public sufficiently in order to ensure real control.

The EU funded “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” project is currently being implemented having the aim to develop the public control. Of course, the program is not only aimed at solving this problem: development of the capacities and potential of civil society organizations, ensuring stability of coalitions, as well as the establishment of a constructive dialogue with the government, etc are also its objectives.

Today’s focus group brought together the representatives of the project and the members of the Public Network for Cooperation with State Authorities. They discussed the issues of concern of the Network. They identified the most important areas as well as the problems that exists in the areas, which neet urgent solution.

Mr. Marat Atovmyan facilitated the meeting. He said that the focus groups are aimed to identify key areas of public interest. He also said that 3 areas have been chosen in the scope of the project.

The “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” Project is implemented with the financial support of the European Union by the “Armenian Lawyers’ Association” NGO in cooperation with its partners; Agora Central Europe o.p.s (an NGO from the Czech Republic), Armenian Center for Democratic Education-CIVITAS, “International Center for Human Development” Public Organization, SME Cooperation Association and Union of Communities of Armenia.
