Human rights activists Avetik Ishkhanyan was not aware of the new draft law “On Prevention of Corruption and Ethics Commission” as well. Notably this law even had been submitted to public discussions, but many of the political and public figures were not aware of the fact.
Mr. Ishkhanyan referred to the activity of the Commission on Ethics of High-Ranking Officials, and said that he had not seen any positive result.
“It cannot be an independent body if it is appointed by the President as all the other declarative independent bodies in Armenia. They do not show any independence. If they are to initiate a case against someone, it should be on the consent of the President. And those who are enjoying the patronage of the President… There will be no proceedings against them. There may be great many materials and facts, but the Commission will not consider them in any way.”
According to Mr. Ishkhanyan there is no political will. Steps to fight corruption will be carried out having the aim to receive grants and loans from international organizations. And they will be formal.”
