Mr. Varuzhan Hoktanyan, Project Director “Transparency International” Anti-Corruption Center was not aware about the new draft law “On Prevention of Corruption and Ethics Commission”. “No, I am not aware. I only know that there were talks about the creation of such a specialized anti-corruption preventive body on the basis of the commission. I have heard only that. But I am not aware that there is such draft,” he said.
This draft was presented for public discussion on e-draft website in the period of 3 – 18 February, but many NGO representatives ara not aware about the existence of this draft.
Speaking about the Commission on Ethics of High-Ranking Officials, Mr. Hoktanyan said,
“The insufficient level of public will in our country, as well as the fact of insufficient powers of the Commission, do not allow the Commission to work effectively. I’m not inclined to blame the Commission. I can say the same about the law enforcement agencies and other bodies having preventive functions. All these bodies will work effectively, when there is political will to curb the corruption risks.”
