“If this new Council is the updated version of the Ethics Commission, I do not expect any results,” Mr. Aleksnader Shagafyan, President of the “Armenian CIVITAS” NGO said speaking about the new Anti-Corruption Council.
Notably, the RA Minsitry of Justice had presented draft law “On Prevention of Corruption and Ethics Commission” for public discussions on the on e-draft website․However most of the public figures are not aware of it.
Mr. Shagafyan notes that a key role for the Anti-Corruption Council is its independence. However, this new Council is appointed by the President. “Naturally, if it is appointed by one authority regardless whether by the President or by the Government, then the independence of the body cannot be full. It would be good if all stakeholders have had their quota.”
