A draft law “On Prevention of Corruption and Ethics Commission” has been developed and even presented for public discussion on e-draft website. However, it appeared that the persons concerned are not aware of its existence. Public figures Ms Anahit Bakhshyan, candidate to NA from “Free Democrats” Party is not aware of it as well.

However, she notes that the fact that the head and the members of this commission are appointed by the President already means that it cannot be an independent anti-corruption body.

“Any commission, which is aimed at fighting against corruption, should be rejected from the very beginning if it is appointed by the President. In addition, we can say from the very beginning that the commission will support all corrupt officials, Our reality is proof of that” Anahit Bakhshyan said.

With regarding the currently operational Commission on Ethics of High-Ranking Officials of Armenia, which works for about four years already, she described it as deaf, dumb and blind. “There only the name for already four years and in fact its activity is not really completely performed in the direction, which it should have worked.”
