The Necessary Number of Votes Cast “For” was not gathered for defining to set the “Advocate’s Day”

Yesterday, on 11 February the regular Common Session of the RA Chamber of Advocates took place. The agenda included three issues:

  • Election of the members of Bar Council.
  • Election of persons responsible for the disciplinary work of the Chamber of Advocates of RA.
  • Defining an “Advocate’s Day”.

The Calculating Commission of the RA Chamber of Advocates summarized the results of the Common Session on the issue of defining the “Advocate’s Day”.

The options suggested as the “Advocate’s Day” in the ballots of the Common Session were June 2, June 11, June 18, November 9, December 6 and December 14.

The Charter of the RA Chamber of Advocates provides that the Common Session can be considered held and the “Advocate’s Day” defined in case when the simple majority of the total number of the advocates eligible to participate in the meeting voted in favor of one of the suggested options.

According to the Protocol 1 of 11.02.2017 of the Calculating Commission 1780 advocates were eligible to participate in the session. According to the signing list of the voters’ list 1163 advocates received ballots, but only 298 advocates had voted for the option of June 2, which was the option that gathered most votes. However this, according to the Charter was not enough to specify the “Advocate’ Day”.
