Fight against Bribes disguised under Honorariums

As Iravaban.net has reported earlier, on 19 September the Draft Law on making Amendments to the RA Law on Advocacy was submitted for public discussions. One of the most discussed changes in the draft is relating to the management of law firms. 100 percent of the shares must be owned by the advocate/advocates.

Advocate Tigran Atanesyan in the interview with Iravaban.net said that the main objective of these provisions is fight against corruption. “I do not know how successful it will be, but the point is that allegedly there are judges and prosecutors who have their own law firms. The bribe is disguised under honorariums.”

According to the lawyer it may be possible that after the legislative change, these people will formally involve people with the advocate’s license as the owner of the firm. But at the same time it is not so easy to use the advocates as puppets.

As for other provisions of the draft, the lawyer has not seen the controversial provisions. “As an independent attorney, I am interested in one thing, which is that my work will be free and independent, without any legal measures for hindering my activity. I have not seen such.
